Design Writing Research
London: Phaidon Press Ltd
SUMMARY
The book draws on over 10 years of design, writing and research starting with Theory, which looks into the concept of deconstruction and graphic while looking into Derrida’s theory of deconstruction from a graphic point of view. It goes on to define “A deconstruction architect is not one who dismantles building but who locates the inherent dilemmas within the building. The deconstructive architect puts the pure forms of architectural tradition on the couch and identifies the symptoms of a repressed impurity. The impurity is drawn to the surface by a combination of gentle coaxing and violent torture. The form is interrogated.
The book further looks at period styles, Modern hieroglyphs and Freud’s language of dreams.
With examples from Andy Warhol’s works the book looks at the concept of Line Art. The art of White on Black on Gray and subliminal seduction.
The book concludes with the timeline of graphic design in the USA from 1829-1993.
All topics have been well written and represented.
